Nico Suazo worked in the corporate world for over a decade before realizing he could offer the same services and his own personal expertise to the community in a more efficient way. Through a series of events, Suazo realized it was time to make his dream of owning his own business a reality. Thus – Platinum Solar Commercial Solutions was born.

“I work with companies all across the US to help them understand and implement solar solutions for their buildings or their portfolio of buildings,” said Suazo. “I hold your hand from start to finish. That way you don’t have to learn solar or the economics of the industry or hire a general construction team to do all of this for you. I handle everything.”

Suazo has always had the drive to start his own business and work for himself. When he was 12-years-old, he started his own landscaping company. He began mowing laws in his neighborhood and it quickly grew to 20 lawns per week. When he was 17 he ended up handing those over to a local landscaping company.

“I’ve always wanted to work for myself. When I was in the corporate world, I always felt like I could do it better – not in an arrogant way, but I didn’t feel like I was valued,” said Suazo. “I think that’s what drove me to start this business. I understood the industry and I knew this was my chance so I should jump on it.”

The company has been working out of Salt Lake Community College’s Business Incubator at Miller Campus. This co-working space is a mentorship-driven program and physical facility assisting innovative and scalable startups.

“Being in the incubator has brought me business directly,” said Suazo. “It has helped me strengthen relationships and I can walk down the hall and talk with businesses or entrepreneurs about their ideas and ask who they use for accounting or what they do in different situations.”

Now with 4 employees, Suazo says he feels he has a responsibility with the more employees that he brings on.

“I’m trying to raise capital right now so I can offer full-time salaries and strategically grow the business,” said Suazo. “That’s a feel-good thing. I love that I’m working with these different businesses across the US. It’s hard work, but very rewarding.”

Suazo says he loves the relationships he builds from owning his own business and loves making people become the heroes of their company.

“My company helps with the bottom line of a company. With utilities as the second highest expense, Platinum Solar Commercial Solutions goes straight for the bottom line of a business to help companies save money,” said Suazo. “In turn these people are contributing to the environment, they’re saving the company money, and the money that’s saved ultimately helps the company become more successful.”

When asked what his future goals were for the company – Suazo said he would love to be able to hand over his business to his children. He wants to build a brand and reputation that people want to work with. He believes that reputation, relationships, expertise and success is what drives his business – and he does so with integrity.
