Dr. Jeff Plicka, a transplant from California, took over the Midvale location in May 2017. After practicing at a private practice in Santa Barbara, California for five years, Dr. Plicka decided he was ready to take on the adventure of a start-up dental office.

Stonehaven is a corporation comprised of eight locations. Each location is locally owned and operated – yet they all fit under one umbrella. Some locations have started from scratch, and others have merged to join Stonehaven. The Midvale location started from scratch just six months ago.

“Normally when a doctor takes over a practice, the typical transition is selling the business,” says Plicka. “So basically you’re selling the clientele in the office as well. This location is what we call a ‘de novo’ – basically a start-up from zero. Back in May, we had zero patients. Now we’re seeing between five to seven new patients a day. This is my first experience with a start-up office, but so far it’s been steady, healthy growth.”

Stonehaven has been thriving off of taking care of their patients in a kind and respectful manner.

“My personal philosophy, not even speaking of Stonehaven, but as a provider of dentistry, is trying to treat people kindly and to listen to their problems,” says Plicka. “Most people in any sort of business whether it’s dentistry or healthcare just want people to have a good experience. You also want to feel like the people who are providing you care really do care about you personally. That’s a philosophy we try to go by here and I think in our company-wide values we try to encompass that as well.”

Plicka says that when someone comes to the dentist three things happen: they don’t want to experience pain, they want it to be affordable, and they want to have a good experience.

“I think my patients leave feeling impressed by how they were treated by the staff, hygienist, and doctor.”

Jennifer Graham, the office manager, says that working in an industry where you can help alleviate pain and help people is very rewarding.

“I love it when I hear people say that we took good care of them,” says Graham. “We’re a business, but our top priority is to help people with their dental needs. It feels good when you know someone who has extreme dental anxiety walks out of the door with a great experience.”
